Your 5-day plan, day by day

Real Chinese hospital visits rarely resolve in one appointment. Scans and blood work happen on a separate day from the diagnosis conversation, so this plan assumes at least one waiting day.

DAY 1

Arrive at Baiyun, get to the hotel, do nothing else

  • Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall holding your name card. Guangzhou immigration and baggage usually take 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Check in, buy a local SIM card or activate roaming, and set up WeChat Pay or Alipay — most hospital payment machines do not accept foreign cards reliably.
  • Sleep. Do not try to start anything clinical on arrival day.
DAY 2

Registration and first consultation

  • Arrive at the hospital before 08:00. Registration desks open early and queue numbers run out quickly.
  • With a companion, you register, get a hospital card, then join the department queue. Your interpreter stays with you through triage.
  • The doctor writes requests for scans or blood work. Pay the fees at the machine or counter, then book the earliest available slot.
DAY 3

Scans, tests, waiting

  • Imaging and laboratory departments are usually booked for the next available morning, which is why this day exists.
  • Turnaround varies: routine blood work often comes back the same day, MRI and CT commonly within one to three days.
  • Keep every printed report and every digital file. Chinese hospitals rarely send results to you afterwards.
DAY 4

Results review, then a gentle afternoon

  • Your doctor reviews everything and discusses next steps. If surgery is proposed, ask in writing for the proposed date, the estimated cost and the expected hospital stay.
  • In the afternoon, pick something flat and short. Canton Tower (Xiaomanyao) has an elevator straight to the observation deck — you never walk up.
  • The Pazhou riverfront and the Ersha Island art and riverside paths are both flat, shaded and easy to cut short if you tire.
DAY 5

Second opinion or departure

  • Use this day for a second consultation if you want one, collecting medication, and printing invoices for insurance.
  • Your driver takes you back to Baiyun with time to spare.

What you book yourself, and what we arrange

What you book yourself

  • Return flights into Baiyun International Airport
  • Your hotel or serviced apartment
  • Travel medical insurance bought before departure
  • The hospital appointment and all treatment payments

What we arrange on the ground

  • A driver waiting for you at Baiyun International Airport and again on departure day
  • An interpreter beside you at registration, consultation and payment
  • A companion to handle registration cards, queue numbers and pharmacy pickup
  • A short, low-effort outing on your recovery days

Recovery-day activity ideas

Waiting days are unavoidable, and sitting in a hotel room makes the trip worse. These are flat, short and easy to stop early:

  • Canton Tower observation deck
  • Shamian Island heritage walk
  • Ersha Island art and riverside walk
  • Yuexiu Park and Five Rams statue

Practical notes

  • Metro Line 3 connects Baiyun Airport directly to downtown in about 45 minutes, but after surgery or with mobility limits a car is worth arranging.
  • Cantonese is common and Mandarin is universal; English is limited outside international desks.
  • Guangzhou is warm and humid most of the year — carry water and keep recovery activities indoors or shaded.
