Travel Arrangements for Medical Visitors

Planning the travel side of a medical trip is mostly logistics: which airport you land at, how long you need to stay, and where you sleep while you attend appointments. The tools below search flights and hotels through independent third-party platforms. CathayMedGuide does not sell tickets, take payments or hold reservations.

Book international and domestic flights

Search routes into the city where your hospital is located. Build in buffer days for pre-operative assessment and for post-treatment clearance before you fly home.

Hotels

Book hotels near hospitals and city centres

Look for accommodation close to the hospital district you will visit, and confirm that the property accepts foreign passports and international cards before you reserve.

Before you book: get the treatment plan, the itemised quote and the expected length of stay in writing from the hospital first. Discharge dates move, and a fixed return flight is the most common thing patients end up changing.

Practical notes for the travel side

  • Visas. Many patients travel on a short-term medical visa issued against a hospital invitation letter; others use a transit exemption or a visa-free entry scheme depending on nationality and length of stay. Confirm your route with the hospital and the nearest Chinese embassy.
  • Length of stay. Major procedures usually mean two to three weeks in country once pre-operative assessment, surgery, recovery and clearance to fly are counted. Diagnostics and screening take considerably less.
  • Companions. Most hospitals can arrange a companion bed, and accommodation for a family member is a separate budget line worth planning for in advance.
  • Payment. International card acceptance varies outside the large international hospital wings, so carry a second payment method and confirm in advance what the hospital accepts.
  • Insurance. Medical evacuation cover is widely recommended for treatment abroad; check whether your existing policy covers treatment outside your home country at all.
